The Wanderlust World Guide Awards launched in December 2005, to recognise the unsung heroes of the travel world: guides and tour leaders.
Each year, thousands of guides from around the world are nominated by their clients, all eager to tell us about an individual who has gone beyond the call of duty to make their trip a remarkable experience.
With 2020 and 2021 being extraordinary, and so many people not being to travel, we are turning to the travel trade to tell us who deserves the accolade of being the Best Guide in the World.
We have just two categories this year – Best Tour Leader and Best Specialist Guide. The tour leader category speaks for itself, while the Specialist Guide Category is open to any guide who is not a tour leader, eg a local guide, safari guide, walking guide, city guide, cultural guide.
We will be awarding a Gold, Silver and Bronze in each category. The winners will be picked by a panel of expert judges.

Presenting the Travel Industry Professional of the Year & Travel Media Influencer of the Year
For 2021, Wanderlust has partnered with the World Travel Market and London Travel Week to launch two awards that recognise the outstanding personal achievement of two key groups of individuals. These individuals have kept the industry alive, and the world inspired, during travel’s most testing time.
Anyone can self-nominate or nominate others. The winner will be decided by an expert judging panel.
Travel Industry Professional of the Year
The Travel Industry Professional of the Year celebrates the drive, innovation, and passion of the international travel community. The award spotlights an individual who has shown extraordinary achievement in their field and has made a remarkable contribution to the industry.
All nominations will be considered, but to qualify, the individual must be actively working in the travel industry. This covers the entire spectrum, from adventure travel to aviation, transportation to tourism, hotels, cruises, agencies, and tours.
Travel Media Influencer of the Year
In the age of digitally driven explorers, the Travel Media Influencer of the Year celebrates the bloggers, vloggers and storytelling trailblazers who excite and inspire the world of travel.
From Instagrammers to Youtubers, writers to podcast hosts, this category is open to all types of travel media influencers who have kept us dreaming, and brought the world’s far-flung corners to life, during these turbulent times for travel. Particular credit will be given to those who have engaged networks at scale.
